The NMD Data Dictionary describes all of the data elements for the National Mammography Database, including whether or not a field is required and what responses are valid. There are two versions available:
NMD Version 2.0, based on BI-RADS® 4th Edition (2004)
NMD Versions 3.x, based on BI-RADS® 5th Edition (2013). Applies to Versions 3.0 and 3.4.
These documents are updated periodically as the registry evolves to add and modify data elements collected.
You are strongly encouraged to use the Version 3.4 format since, at some point, Version 2.0 will be considered obsolete and no longer accepted by the NMD. Version 3.4 is also a more robust format that captures data for ultrasound, MRI, and combination exams in addition to mammography.
